Anniversaries are special events. They recognize important events. This year our nation is celebrating a big anniversary – the semiquincentennial – or 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence! What does that mean? How can we celebrate? And what does one get for a country for it’s 250th anniversary?
Memorial Day signals the start of BBQ’s, pool parties and summer fun in America, but it is also a serious holiday, honoring those who died while serving our country in the military. We believe that one way to honor those who died while serving our country, is to make a point of remembering them – especially on Memorial Day!
Easter will be here soon. This year, I find myself thinking about hope again. But this year, my focus is on the power hope gives us during challenges to keep going.
Christmas is one of my favorite holidays. The lights, decorations, music – the food; I love it all! While I look forward to enjoying everything that is Christmas again this year, I find myself focusing on one small phrase within the Christmas story.

In the United States, Labor Day weekend is the grand finale of summer. People rush to squeeze in one last vacation, project, or party before settling into their fall routines. I admit, I do the same thing. But that is not all there is to this holiday.
The Fourth of July is a celebration of freedom. The founders of the United States of America understood just how important freedom was and what a large step they took when they declared their independence from Great Britain.

When we think about Christmas, we think of many things – gifts, setting up a tree, laughter, and fun. Hopefully, thinking about Christmas this year will also cause us to consider what is most important to give – time with those we love.
