Preoccupied with Hope at Easter
As Easter approaches, I find myself thinking about one particular aspect of this holiday. This year it’s not decorating or hiding eggs – although I have a lot of good memories of doing these things with my kids. It’s not a special meal with family or even the services at church. This year, I find myself preoccupied with hope.
Focusing on Hope
Easter is a Christian holiday. In fact, it could be argued that it is THE Christian holiday. A time when we remember the death of Christ on a cross, followed by his miraculous rising from the dead three days later.
This is the main point of the whole Easter holiday, and it is something I find myself more in awe of with each passing year. However, as important and awe inspiring as it is – that is not the part of the Easter story I find myself focusing on this year.
Instead, it is hope.
Easter is Full of Hope
Hope is a powerful thing, and the Easter season is full of hope. Merriam-Webster defines hope as “desire accompanied by expectation of or belief in fulfillment.” Easter is a holiday that celebrates God doing something tangible that would give human beings the ability and the power to move into the wholeness he originally designed them to have.
Hope is Powerful
Hope is powerful. It can encourage people who are beaten down by circumstances; strengthen those who are close to giving up. It gives a renewed sense of purpose. This Easter, I would encourage you to think about hope and maybe take a moment to read the Christian Easter story.
